  Factors That Could Effect
Fuel Efficiency Of Your car

Factors that could affect fuel efficiency of your car

Initial running-in period - Your car's fuel efficiency will increase after the initial 1000 kms and stabilise after 2000 krns This is because a new engine is prone to higher internal friction than a run-in one.

Mechanical condition of the car - Well-maintained cars always consume less fuel due to their greater operating efficiency

Correctly inflated tyres - Fuel consumption increases drastically if the tyres are under-inflated since the rolling resistance of the tyres increases. Check the tyre pressure once in 15 days at a pump with a well -calibrated gauge

Quality of fuel - Fuel adulteration and meter tampering is rampant in our country. Make sure you refuel your car only at a reputed purnp.

Traffic condition - Traffic jams severely irnpact fuel consumption This is because the average speed of the car reduces and usually the car remains stationary for a long tirne.

Short drives - When the engine is cold it consumes more fuel. Hence, frequent short drives reduce fuel efficiency as the engine hardly gets the time to operate in fully warmed up condition. Fuel level in the car when it is parked - Cars parked in open sunny areas suffer from loss of fuel due to evaporation. Besides, even low fuel levels mean high evaporation as the fuel is allowed to slosh around in the tank.

Driving habits - A smoothly driven car can deliver amazing fuel consumption figures. So it is advisable to drive smoothly and gently and shift gears accordingly For best results, also avoid over speeding.

Pilferage by chauffeur - Petrol is expensive and pilferage of a few liters translates into significant loss of money. So make sure fuel is always filled in your presence.

Unnecessary engine running - It is often observed that drivers keep the engine and the air conditioner 'on' while waiting in parking lots This leads to wastage of fuel and power.

Incorrect measurernent of fuel consumption - Quite often, owners follow wrong methods to calculate mileage. This leads to a false perception that their cars are not performing well. The best way to measure your car's fuel efficiency is to follow the traditional 'tank full to tank full' method. Simply top up the tank fully, drive in your usual manner for at least 50 krns, refuel at the same pump at the same fuel dispensing location, ensure that the tank is topped up again, and just divide the 'distance traveled' by the quantity of fuel required for the top up'
